I grew up in Liverpool, in a household where music and humour were a part of everyday life. Stories were told around kitchen tables, songs were sung long after they should have ended, and Irish sing-alongs had a habit of turning ordinary weekends into something unforgettable. 

 

Those stories, songs and people never left me.

 

My love of storytelling first found its home in music and performance, leading me from performing in the West End and Broadway to working in film and television in London, New York and Los Angeles. Each chapter brought new experiences, new perspectives and new ways of understanding how powerful a well-told story can be.

 

But wherever I went, I found myself drawn back to the world I knew best- working-class communities.

 

The wit in hard times. The characters who can break your heart and make you laugh in the same breath. The music, the pride, the resilience and the sense of belonging that exists in places that don’t always see themselves reflected on screen.

 

But I don't want to show these stories as tales of misery or defeat, but stories of hope, humour and perseverance. Stories about communities that keep going, keep laughing and keep singing, no matter what life throws at them.

 

Music sits at the heart of that world and at the heart of my work. It has always been my soundtrack to community, memory and identity; a way of bringing people together and giving voice to the moments words alone can’t quite reach. 

 

Bold As Brass Films grew out of all of it — a life spent around music, storytelling and performance, a passion for the medium of film, and a belief that working-class stories deserve to be told with ambition and optimism, without losing the humour and warmth that make them worth telling in the first place.
